Slow it Down…

Slow it Down…

Believe it or not my favourite time of the day is when I get to hide in the kitchen and cook dinner. No one is allowed in, I have my ear buds in with my tunes rockin…and more often than not and LARGE glass of wine in my hand.

Now on the flip side…the least fave part of my day is figuring out what the hell I am going to be cooking during my private rock concert moment…I think I would rather chew glass!

There is always one night a week where I LIE to my entire family…and spend my “Cooking Time”  hiding in the kitchen…Pretendering to cook…Music blasting and phone and wine in hand while I play Bejewelled and Tweet for 45 minute…and I am totally Faking it…This is my Slow Cooker night…where my meal cooks it self. I merely have to slice some fresh bread, throw a salad together and VOILA…Culinary Perfection…

This is why I am so thrilled to be giving one of the Beauties away, thanks to the Fabulous Hamilton Beach!!!

I LUV mine so much…it may be inappropriate to have such feeling for small kitchen appliances, but I do…

So how do you win …??? EASY!!

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me what recipe you have ALWAYS wanted to cook…but are too much of a culinary chicken to try…(no need to leave the whole recipe)…and your Entered…That simple…The winner will be chosen at random and will get this FAB Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker …AND!!! Ghetto Foodie will try the winners recipe and feature it !! Also…Good or Bad, my family will also eat it!

For Extra Entries…

- Follow Ghetto Foodie on Twitter & be sure to let me know that you did!! = 1 Extra Entry

- LIKE Ghetto Foodie on Facebook and leave a comment on the FB Wall letting me know that you did… = 1 Extra Entry

**If you already do this…be sure to let me know and you will still get your 2 entries…and thank you for the Luv!! **

It’s not that I’ve been too chicken to try, but every time I’ve tried to cook ribs, I’ve failed. And so I’ve stopped because I can never cook the perfect, fall of the bone, gooey rib that is so delicious…

Braised Lamb Shanks….I’ve never cooked lamb, and I know it’s delicious. Doing braised lamb would be amazing in a slow-cooker. I just have never been brave enough to try!

I’ve been a single mom now for almost 4 years and cooking for myself and a small child has been pretty easy up until now – grilled cheese sandwiches, soups, bite size veggies and fruits – pretty simple stuff, but now there is four of us, met someone really special this year – and my 30 year old brother is staying with me temporarily. That’s a lot of people to feed and I’m so frazzled on what to make for dinner everynight! Please help Hamilton Beach and Ghetto Foodie!!

I love slow cooking. One of my favourite fancy foods to make is Coq au Vin, and I’d like to try it in the slow cooker, since the stovetop is a real pain in my tuches.
Ps. I’m following you all over plus I tweeted, since I need a new slow cooker. mine is tired.

I love to use the slow cooker. It’s even better when you come home wondering what you’re having for dinner and when you walk in the door you smell the cooker going and remember that dinner is done! I haven’t been very successful with whole chickens in the slow cooker though so I’d love to do that better and I am not a good rib maker, but love ribs so I’d love to learn how to do that better. One recipe I’ve never made is a souflé. Very intimidating!

Dee, I must admit to having committed a culinary crime. You see, I tried to make gumbo. Except that some of the ingredients I chose made it more like a Colombian gumbo (it has chorizo and trigusar in it, among other things).

Except that instead of Colombian gumbo, it’s more like “Colombo”. Yes, the Peter Falk character. All dishevelled and messy-looking, no one takes my Colombo seriously (which is also true of Detective Colombo).

What I’d LIKE is the ending that Peter Falk had, where in the moment of truth, everyone realized they should have known that Colombo would be amazing, and exceed everyone’s expectations.

That does NOT happen with the pink “Hello Kitty” pot with the heart-shaped handles.

I could really use this slow cooker to truly bring Colombo to life. But don’t do it for me. Do it for Peter Falk.
